A Foiled Northside Convenience Store Robbery
No great police work here, but a funny story anyway. I was on the night shift (3rd shift) patrolling the north side of town. I was traveling west on Old Iowa Park Road coming up on Harris Lane. Today there's a convenience store named "MO's" on that corner. Back in 1982, it was a Jiffy Store.
As I approached the Jiffy store I noticed a male with a ski mask over his head emerge from behind the building. He saw me at about the same time I saw him. He did about as fast an "about face" as I've ever seen and disappeared back behind the store. I was hitting the brakes, calling in the info, and trying to keep an eye on him at the same time.
He made his way into the area of the irrigation ditch behind the store. We scoured the neighborhood but he must have had a great hiding place, as he was never seen again. I can just imagine what was going though his mind when he first saw me. He's probably still laughing about it too.
