What’s the story on Loop 11? Who came up with the idea of naming a street that doesn’t “loop” anywhere, a loop? Loop 11 has never come close to looping. There are a few curves here and there, but no loop. A loop should circumnavigate some area of town, and then end up where it started. It should be a closed circuit. Fort Worth has Loop 820. It’s a real loop. Dallas has Loop 12. It’s a real loop, too. It goes around stuff and comes back to where it started. So do Loops 410 and 1604 in San Antonio. Houston has Loop 8.
Loop 11, in fact, recently became more of a non-loop when it was extended north to Airport Drive. That extension is about as straight a road as I’ve ever seen. Not even a slight inclination that it wants to loop anywhere. The southern end of Loop 11 becomes Beverly Drive as you cross over Seymour Hwy. There’s no indication that Beverly Drive ever had any intention of looping anywhere, either. There’s no indication that any part of Loop 11 will ever loop anywhere. It’s all very confusing to me.
So, why don’t we just rename it something besides a loop? How about Alexis Maldonado Drive, in honor of the native Wichitan who was killed in action serving our country in Afghanistan?
